Song: Wetland - This song was written about Louisiana, also in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina when the reality of New Orleans being under sea level was so clear and had caused so much devastation. Steve had started a band called Nova Nola with Sasha and his son Martin, as well as Ricky Sebastian on drums. The music was sonically inspired by New Orleans rhythms as well as Brazilian music and Nova Nola translates to "New New Orleans.' Song: North Wind - This is a song Steve wrote in October of 2005 at the first glimpse of cool weather in New Orleans which meant fall was finally arriving, hurricane season was coming to an end and the city could focus on healing and picking up the pieces after hurricane Katrina. Song: Entropy - Sasha's father, Steve Masakowski, wrote the music for an Astral Project record called Blue Streak, released in 2007. Astral Project is the modern jazz band that Steve has been a member of since 1978- one of the most unique, original sounding groups to come out of New Orleans. They blend modern jazz, funk and rock music and the band members include legendary New Orleans musicians Johnny Vidacovich, drums, James Singleton, bass, and Tony Dagradi, sax. Sasha wrote lyrics to the song in 2017, taking the title (Entropy = chaos, disorganization, randomness- the general trend of the universe towards death and disorder) and applied it to modern day politics. Song: Sweet Dreams - Steve wrote this song for a 1991 release called 'Friends' which featured Ellis Marsalis. During this time he and Ellis had a weekly duo gig at a jazz club called Tyler's and they would always play this song. Ellis often said this was his favorite composition of Steve's. Sasha wrote lyrics earlier this year when the Masakowski Family was invited to perform a Tribute to Ellis Marsalis after his passing in April 2020.
