Kanaval at Congo Square
New Orleans, Louisiana - Positive Vibrations Foundation is proud to announce our sponsorship of the legendary Haitian Rara (festival) band RAM in addition to funding local community artists to participate in KANAVAL at Congo Square in collaboration with Preservation Hall Foundation on Tuesday February 6, 2018. RAM is a drum-roots-driven powerhouse band from Port-au-Prince, Haiti who recently headlined Bal Masqué. RAM’s ancient folkloric polyrhythms intertwine harmoniously with Punk Rock guitar riffs and swinging Caribbean keyboard melodies. This is going to be a very special day woven into the fabric of Mardi Gras season. We’re honored to host RAM at the site their ancestors sent their vibes out so many years before them. In addition to other musical performances and tributes, we will host an all ages Drum Circle with Congo Kids led by Master Percussionist Seguenon Kone and a Grand Procession through Tremé with Red Wolf Brass Band, who is known for putting a new swing on traditional New Orleans music.
“Positive Vibrations Foundation is thrilled to participate in Kanaval and to provide free music programming for the community. Bringing a legendary band like RAM to New Orleans to headline Kanaval and at the same time featuring local artists like the Red Wolf Brass Band and Seguenon Kone, it is our privilege to honor some of the best traditions of New Orleans music and culture at its very roots in Congo Square and the Vieux Carre” -Co-Founder and Director, Ben Faulks.
